- Thank you Bob and Penne Huff — Many thanks to Bob and Penne Huff for hosting the meeting as well as Bob’s work on keeping the proposed Pickle Ball courts for the Northeast Park from going in next our neighborhoods south end.
- Pet Park — In the past there have been rumblings of putting a pet park in the aforementioned area. The sentiment was the neighborhood should mobilize against this should the city bring this up again.
- Financials — Mark George went over the financials. Please see the attached document for specifics. The current account balance is 10,960 dollars. Our expenditures for 2023 totaled $2,729. It was noted that landscaping was done but we were not billed for this. In previous years this has amounted to about $1,500. The annual HOA assessment income amounts to $5,250. Some thought was given to lowering the dues but in light of some possible expenditures in the offing and the resistance that would likely be encountered should we lower the assessment and then need to raise them again it was decided to forgo any changes at this time.
- Neighborhood egress — The difficulty of exiting the neighborhood was discussed in particular the sight obstruction caused by the Holly bushes. The plan is to get a few estimates for this work which would include replacing the Holly bushes with a dwarf plant as well as some tidying of the front entrance. Robbie Picket with Magnolia Green and Eric Powe were two names mentioned for estimates. Currently the front entrance is maintained by Roger Liddell for 7 months out of the year, consideration was given to contracting 12 months of maintenance.
Michael Haynes suggested asking the city to put in a 3-way stop for this intersection. Alan Jensen will approach a Meridian city counsel member regarding this. If a 3 way stop is not an option perhaps a sign for cars coming from the east on Old Country Club indicating incoming traffic. Another thought might be a posted speed limit sign or a display that shows driver speed. Also a “Slow Children at Play” for Forrest Dr. may be desirable.

- Sharebook Kiosk — Placement of a share book kiosk in the neighborhood was discussed but due to potential for increasing neighborhood traffic it was felt best to not place one.
- Pet waste bag dispenser — A pet waste bag dispenser for the neighborhood was mentioned to stoicism.
- Common sidewalk leading to Northeast Park — Austin Ordway noticed the sidewalk when wet can become slippery due to mold over growth. Hiring someone to power wash or chemically treat it was thought to be the best solution.
Austin also mentioned how the dirt at the end of the sidewalk is eroding and difficult to negotiate. Alan Jensen looked into hiring someone to build a safe ingress/egress for this area but this stalled due to difficulties encountered with the city and professionals undertaking a project that entails building on city property. Instead it was felt that “masons” in our neighborhood might gather to plan and subsequently construct a low profile egress for this area using some combination of dirt, polymeric sand, gravel/stone, treated lumber and brain power.
- East and West neighborhood boundaries — Rocio Jensen mentioned how some trees behind her house were impinging on her property line fence. She was given contact information for her backyard neighbor to the East.
Bob Huff has noticed a large dyeing/dead tree on the westerly neighbor’s property close to the Blackmon’s and suggested reaching out to the property owner should this become more of an issue.
- Garden committee — Kerry Parker agreed to chair the neighborhood landscaping committee
- Social committee — Rocio Jensen agreed to chair the neighborhood social committee
- Burn Pile — Jack Andy asked about burning sticks and other natural yard refuse on property. There was no objection as long as proper precautions were taken in particular checking for burn bans and continual monitoring while burning.
- New Officers — Jack Andy and Austin Ordway will remain as President and Vice-President respectively and Michael Haynes agreed to take over the Treasurer role from Mark George who will be relocating with his family to Pensacola in June.
- Please pay the assessment of $250 to “Southern Oaks HOA” and deliver to Mark George @ 7581 Forrest Dr. if you haven’t done so.
- Please remember to drive slowly and cautiously through the neighborhood.
- Please keep limbs/shrubs/debris off the sidewalks and common areas.
- Please continue to pick up after your pet.
