Minutes for the Southern Oaks HOA meeting April 2025 – March 2026

Good Evening All,

The Southern Oaks HOA meeting was held 3/23/26 at Jack and Crystal Andy’s house.

Attendees: Jack Andy, Austin Ordway, Michael Haynes, Terry Jordan, John Baker, Rocio & Alan Jensen, Candy & Robert Ward, Kerry Parker.

Meeting Minutes

Regarding repaving the road, Jack Andy contacted the city a year ago about repaving Forrest Dr. as it had been 10 or more years since the last paving and expressed the HOA’s desire for this to be done again.

Regarding the sidewalk repairs, Jack Andy talked to representatives of Marion, Meridian and Lauderdale County and none of the agencies felt any inclination to repair these. He asked if they would be ok with the subdivision repairing these and they had no issues with this.

Regarding multi-lot ownership, a vote was held last year about assessments for families owning more than one lot. The results were that if an owner of 2 lots for a single dwelling should only be responsible for paying one assessment. Jack Andy noted that he had recently seen a reference to this effect in the HOA bylaws, see this link: Article III, Section 2. (A)

Bob and Pennie Huff have sold their home but are currently renting from the new owners as they migrate North over the ensuing weeks.

Kerry Parker and The Jensens are going to get together with Bob Huff soon to learn the ins and outs of the sprinkler system at the front of the neighborhood.

Michael Haynes said the HOA currently has approx. $8,000 in the bank. There are about 10 assessments yet to be collected for this year. Monthly expenditures for electricity have gone up running ~$1,000/year.  Front entrance maintenance runs about $2,500 annually, sprinkler water is about $800 annually, Insurance for the HOA runs about $750 annually. Subsequent to the meeting my analysis of the budget spreadsheet shows we collected $5,250 and spent $5,155 in the Fiscal year for 2025.

Construction of a dirt/stone/plant based egress to the park area from the cul-de-sac sidewalk is to be led by John Baker and Austin Ordway. Members of the neighborhood will provide labor and implement use gratis to keep expense down for the HOA.

John Baker volunteered and was subsequently voted in as the new president of the HOA.

Austin Ordway volunteered to assume the treasury duties and continue his vice-presidential role for the HOA.

Michael Haynes conveyed the need to take him off the signatory for the HOA account and instate Austin Ordway as one. Since the meeting actions to do this have been initiated by Jack Andy.

Interest in restarting an annual neighborhood social gathering was expressed by multiple members. John Baker echoed enthusiasm for this and will make efforts for it to happen.

Sincerely,

Jack Andy
